Welcome to the alternate web-site of Schwarzer Hund German Shepherds. Located in rural east-central Alabama near Auburn University, we breed shepherds for service, protection, and companionship. Our dogs have been selected from solid, mainly working, German and Czech bloodlines. After thoroughly researching the GSD breed we have selected lines and dogs in an attempt to reproduce in both appearance and working ability, the "altdeutscher," or old-style German Shepherd Dog, while still adhering to the confines of the modern breed standard.
As our name suggests (schwarzer hund is German for black dog), we typically offer blacks, black sables (the original color of the German Shepherd dog), and bi-colors, with both stock and long-stock coats, but regardless of color and general aesthetic concerns, our main objectives in breeding are soundness, even-temperament, ability and intelligence. All of our dams and sires, except where noted otherwise, are certified as free of hip and elbow dysplasia before breeding, and are in top physical condition. Pups come with a health guarantee that covers all major canine diseases as well as hereditary hip and elbow dysplasia.
