This wonderful breed had its beginning in France and Belgium. They are one of the oldest of toy breeds. This name was given in France due to the distinctive ears which resemble butterfly wings.There are 2 breed types: The Phalene, which has dropped ears and the Papillon has erect ears. The temperament is happy, alert, and friendly. They are neither shy nor agressive. They are very trainable, and their need for human companionship makes them great companions and excellent service and therapy dogs. They exhibit a fine bone structure and a tail that is a long, flowing plume. the coloring is always parti-color or white with patches of any color. The head should be a color other than white and should cover both eyes and ears. The white blaze down the center emphasizes the butterfly look.
They are the sweetest, most loving of any dogs I have ever had.
