ABOUT US:
My family has been breeding dogs for over 50 years. My dad trained K-9s for the army and was an avid hunter. The Beagle stole my heart at a very young age so when Dad passed in 1987 I decided to focus exclusively on them and what I could do to perpetuate and perfect the breed.  I only breed 13 inch Beagles.

The advantage they have is that this is all I do. I own/operate/breed/train and handle all of my dogs from birth. They truly are the best of the best.

BREEDING PRACTICES: We at the Southern Utah Beagle Barn practice the most stringent breeding rituals. Every mating is observed and recorded. We re-qualify DNA, therefore eliminating any health issues and are present for every birth. We research every possibility. We do not allow in breeding or line breeding! We do not sell to brokers or retail.  We do not participate in any way of the breeding of designer dogs.

ABOUT THE BREED: Beagles are the noblest of companions and hunters. This highly intelligent and energetic breed was developed over two centuries ago in England. While the noble men would take the English Fox Hound to hunt, Their fair ladies longed for companionship in their absence. Ergo the English Beagle, smaller and more suitable for royalty and ladies of court.

The American Beagle was first recognized in the late 1850s. They were bred for size and temperament while still allowing the underlying hunting instinct to remain in tact.

Beagle packs are tenacious, protective and loyal. Individually they are sweet, attentive, loving and very curious. (They like their bellies rubbed and their ears scratched!)

They are still the best hunters for their weight/size ratio. This is what makes them the perfect family dog. They are, by nature happy, playful and endearing to anyone who comes in contact with them. They love children; other pets and can be quite entertaining. Not unlike children they need rules, boundaries and limitations. Their enthusiasm for life is very contagious!
